Three steps to identify a real Hastelloy reactor manufacturer

The application of Hastelloy metal results an high cost, so you need to learn who is a good manufacturer for your own interests. This page offers three easy operational steps to identify a real hastelloy reactor manufacturer.
You might have so many Hastelloy reactor manufacturers in your list that it seems too hard to indentify the right one fast and accurate.
Below three steps can help you to get over it.

Step One, Exam their Certificates and Inspection reports

1.1 Certificates

The manufacturer need to be certificated with the pressure vessels standards of your region.

1.2 Licences

Ask for their licences, google their name to check their internet information. In the 2020s, almost all of the companies have a website, which may be not in English, but it shall be in their mother language at least.
Remove these who having a poor website or even has no website from your list. Because it is a good reason to doubt their company's managment or financial conditions.

1.3 Report of Hastelloy raw material

The hastelloy reactor manufacturer shall offer Inspection Report of Hastelloy raw material from their supplier.

1.4 Pre-delivery inspection report

Ask for pre-delivery inspection report of their finished reactors from manufacturer.
The report shall be in formal with manufacturer's stamp.

1.5 Images date of the company

Get the photo or video from manufacturer of their office and workshop.
The manufacturer shall have a numberous of engineers, technical personals, and certificated welders. Pay attention to work uniform of the worker in workshop, if their uniform having other company's logo, then it means the representative is trying to make fool of you.

1.6 Documents

The manufacturer has a whole set of documents, including quotation sheet, PI, contract, manual, etc.

Step Two, Manufacturer's capability checking

The first step would filter 80% of the manufacturer who states they are real, actually they are not.  Now, you need to do further investigation to filter more.

2.1 Technical ability

The hastelloy reactor is usually customized reactor, so a qualified manufacturer could offer the information drawing of reactor as per the work conditions you offered.

2.2 Facilities and equipments

They shall has a large site with necessary heavy equipment for the reactor's building.
You could ask the representative to offer an on-line tour via video chat. 
During the video chat, you will know the manufacturer's size, facilities, and people working status, etc.

A good manufacturer needs to have a whole departments for producing, well organized process flow, and company is operated in good conditions.
On the other hand,  a clear communication between the two parties are important, because you would have to discuss with the manufacturer on the technique from time to time.

2.3 Success cases

The real manufacturer would be very glad to offer their sucess cases. Please feel free to ask for the pictures or videos. A true hastelloy reactor manufacturer usually saves the photos or videos in their cellphone or computor. 
And these who hesitate to offer, or these try to find excuses are not qualified.

Step Three, Quoting and on-site checking

3.1 Compare quotaion and drawing

After above two steps filtering, the left companies are all ok to make the reactor. Then you need to compare their prices and lead time, finding out who is able to finish your order quick and at low cost.

3.2 check with after sale service

- The quality warranty is offered by qualified manufacturer. During the warranty, you could get free replace parts if they had broken down.
- A good manufacturer offers after sale service, some of them could even offer oversea onsite service. However, they would require an expense for this service.

3.3 Site visit

Now, there would only two or three manufacturers in your list. It's time to go and check in person. 
You wouldn't know if the company is running in good condition until seeing by your own eyes.
Make sure the following items to be checked during the visiting.
Use the 5 factors from Total Quality Management Theory to exam the manufacturer's site management ability.
- Man: 
See if the worker in workshop is forcus on their work. 
- Machine:
Check if their machines are runing in good condition.
- Material:
They shall have a spare parts warehouse, and parts shall be clear and placed in good order.
- Method:
Each producing process needs to have a producing drawing. 
- Enviroment:
The workshop shall at least have basic safety and health facility for their workers.

3.4 Checking their finished reactors

The manufacturer shall have some reactors finished but haven't been delivered yet.
Please feel free to ask the manufacturer about these reactor. 
The manufacturer would be glad to explain the principles and functions. And exam closely to the reactors.

3.4.1 Check the reactor's profile

- Weld seams on the reactor
The welding quality is extremely important. 
The weld seams should be uniform, firm, and free of slag inclusion, pores, and other defects.
- The joint of the parts
The components of the reactor should have precise dimensions and fit tightly.
- Reactor surface 
Check if there is obvious flaws, cracks, or pores, which might affect the sealing and strength of the reactor.

3.4.2 Control System

- The control system shall be powerful and easy operation. 
- Run the reactor if possible, and check if the manufacturer can make a control system  as your request.

3.5 Packing area

The reactors are usually very heavy, so the robust packing is required. Go and check the packing workshop of the manufacturer.

Sometimes, the other packings material needs to be considered to prevent the rain, sea water, vibrations, and so on.
An experienced manufacturer knows the solutions, or they shall at least knows who is the right material supplier.
